Through the privilege of our relationships with Indigenous Partners, we hear and observe the raw, unfiltered impact that philanthropy can have on Indigenous organizations, and the underlying conditions related to intergenerational trauma that philanthropy often ignores or exacerbates. This resource is a summary of the themes illuminated across our relationships, followed by a list of actions and self-interrogating questions to help funders map a different path forward.
Resources for Ethical and Generous Engagement of Indigenous Speakers
Our Indigenous Aunties and Community Partners have shared feedback on the harms and lack of transparency embedded in many of the requests they receive to share their expertise at gatherings and events. Settler event planners, we invite you to use the checklist below as a simple guide to how you can ethically and generously work with Indigenous speakers. And Indigenous cousins, we invite you to use and adapt the questionnaire below to help you ask for the information you need when you’re asked to speak at events!
